Excursion 1: Circular Economy & Underground Innovations
Deep Dive into Waste Management & Resource Recovery
Explore the hidden infrastructure that keeps Helsinki clean and sustainable. This tour takes you from the largest wastewater treatment plant in the Nordics to cutting-edge vacuum-conveyance waste systems.
Destinations:
- HSY Viikinmäki: Wastewater treatment built deep inside the bedrock.
- Kivikko Recycling Station: Modern waste recovery and circular economy in practice.
- Kalasatama Pneumatic Waste System: An innovative automated pipe system for urban waste collection
- Important Requirements: A list of participants must be submitted to HSY 2 weeks in advance.
- Valid photo ID is mandatory for entry.
- Dress code: No valuables or delicate clothing; practical outdoor gear is essential.
