Conference background and coordination

The International Society for Gerontechnology (ISG) was founded in Finland in 1997. In spring 2026, the ISG Board invited the Union for Senior Services VALLI ry and Metropolia University of Applied Sciences to host the 30th Jubilee Conference in Finland in 2027.

Both organizations gladly accepted the opportunity to organize this inspiring global conference. One of the aims is to give leading Finnish technologies international visibility and contribute to making the world a better place to live for older people.

ISG promotes research, development and innovation (RDI) in gerontechnology globally. It brings together researchers, practitioners and decision-makers, disseminates research and increases awareness of gerontechnology worldwide. ISG organizes an international conference every two years, rotating between Asia, the Americas and Europe. The previous conference in Vancouver attracted 250 participants from 24 countries.

ISG’s publication, Gerontechnology Journal, has a wide international readership and publishes, among other content, abstracts from conference presentations.

VALLI ry

The Union for Senior Services VALLI ry has operated an AgeTech Centre since 2015. The AgeTech Centre is a nationwide, independent and non-profit centre of expertise that promotes older people’s inclusion in technology and contributes to policy-making and service development at the societal level.

VALLI has worked closely with the ISG network for more than 15 years. In 2024, ISG officially designated VALLI as the coordinator of the Finnish ISG chapter. VALLI also organizes the annual national DigiAgeTalk event, which includes international speakers from the ISG community.

Metropolia University of Applied Sciences

Gerontechnology is one of Metropolia’s strategic RDI focus areas and, due to its multidisciplinary nature, cuts across several RDI units and learning activities. The Jubilee Conference will therefore serve as a joint event for Metropolia’s RDI units and the Competence Hub in Aging, strengthening Metropolia’s impact. The theme is also advanced through many other activities across Metropolia, in a genuinely multidisciplinary way.
